Housing is a basic human need, just like food and water. The Salvation Army Congregational Partnership Program (CPP) utilizes the strengths of congregations and families facing housing crises to prevent and end homelessness in Kent County. In 2013, over 4,000 households experienced a housing crisis, including over 7,000 children. The CPP was created out of the 10-year plan to end homlessness created by the Grand Rapids Coalition to end homelessness. Over 70 organizations support the vision and help provide housing assistance. The housing first approach focuses on prevention and permanent housing.
Through the CPP, we connect the faith community with individuals and famlies. This ministry puts relationships at the center. Congregations can engage through financial contribution to the Rent Assistance fund and through relational support and peer-to-peer guidance with volunteers.
